Writer’s Block

I can’t seem to come up with a great post today but decided to stumble through anyway. Here goes:

Several months ago I bought a pack of cheap washcloths at Wal-Mart. The 18 pack for $5 cheap washcloths. They held up ok but are now getting very frayed. I decided to buy another pack and regulate the old ones to rags.

They fit great on a Swiffer and can be tossed in the wash. They make great “napkins” for messy meals. In general, they make great cleaning rags.

I have not been able to afford paper towels and Swiffer cloths in some time but find my rags to be just as good or better for the same messes. One caveat…I don’t clean up vomit with anything but paper towels. So I do keep a roll around when I can.

Can anybody share some frugal tips for me to try?

Call Me Cheap

I have been homeless for the past seven months and have had to become frugal by necessity. Now, the shelter I am in supplies us with commercial cleaning supplies but I try to buy my own when I can. Pinching my pennies lead me to Pinterest and finding frugal options.

I use white vinegar and water in a 50/50 mix. I put it in a spray bottle and find it works for alot of things. Even freshening the air in our tiny room. Once the vinegar scent dissipates the room smells fresh and clean.

I grab our community swiffer and put an old washcloth I save to clean with on it. Then I spray the linoleum with my mixture and swiffer it up. It works wonderfully! Please give it a try.

Attach a Button with a Bullion Knot Rosebud

This is my first attempt at this technique but I really like the look. This would look cute on a little girl’s dress.

My button is a 7/8″ pearlized button I happen to have in my button jar. I will keep practicing until I can use smaller buttons and have it look like the tutorial. I just went by the photo and read the tutorial after. 😀 A very bad habit of mine.

The tutorial is very good and here it is for you:

I hope you enjoy it at much as I did.

My Dottie Angel Frock (Simplicity 1080)

I made the tunic length from the pattern envelope and love it! I wear it with white capri leggings. I also found a slightly damaged cashmere sweater at a thrift store that matched the color. I took the leftover scraps to hide the damage on the sweater and made it into a cardigan.

Great for a cool spring day!

Handmade Bunny Handkerchief

My daughter wants to use handkerchiefs instead of facial tissues. We looked around and only found men’s handkerchiefs or vintage ladies ones. She wanted something to use everyday. So, I came home and whipped up this pink bunny one. Bunnies are also big with her right now.

It has a hand rolled hem, chain stitch, stem stitch, and french knots. I used this tutorial:
